Summer special review
We have now come to the end of the four week summer
special, and I am happy to say it has been very successful.
Most of the ladies who took part have found some benefit.
Whilst they had the benefit from the weekly nutritious recipes
for, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, the most beneficial
component of the workshop was the introduction of Green
smoothies. This was the key to the good results we obtained.
Each day they were asked to drink a large green smoothie which contained a large quantity of leafy green
vegetable of either:
Rocket
Spinach
Swish chard
Lolla rossa lettuce
Romaine Lettuce
Parsley
Basil
Or any other leafy green vegetable they could purchase here in Spain
This was combined together with at least one fruit of their choice and 250ml of water to blend the mixture, they
could drink this for breakfast or as a snack or a meal replacement, but always the drunk alone and not as part of
another meal.
So why green?
Greens are said to possess more valuable nutrients than any other food group but the nutrients lie in the cell
walls of the plant, which is very tough and takes a lot to rupture. We would need to chew chew and chew our
greens to a creamy consistency in order to get the benefits, and the stomach would have to produce enough
hydrochloric acid (note as we get older our hydrochloric acid production reduces) at a very low ph balance i.e.
1 or 2 acidity for the assimilation of the nutrients. There can be a side effect from trying to eat food in this way in
the form of bloating, indigestion and possible other side effects.
But if we can blend the foods this does the breaking down of the cellular wall of the plants and therefore
eliminating the possibility of the side effects but giving us the fantastic nutrients in the food.
Many people say and think that they cannot eat ‘greens’ because of the side effects that they produce in the
digestive system. But the above should give you a better understanding of why this may happen.
Now trying to eat copious amounts of green vegetables on their own, would be quite nauseating this I am
certain, but mixed with fruit it is transformed, and makes not only a pleasant drink but an addictive one…
honestly… this is true……
Therefore Green smoothies are easy to digest. Blended well, all the valuable nutrients in these fruits and
veggies become homogenized, or divided into such small particles that it becomes easy for the body to
assimilate and you are getting all the nutrients your body requires and eliminating what it does not!
Below is some of the feedback from the trial.
At the beginning some symptoms of detox, but this went away after the first week
Less bloating
A lot more energy
Elimination of cravings for unhealthy foods
Sleeping better at night
Not so emotional
Elimination of feces easier
I asked the ladies if they would continue to drink the smoothies and they all said yes, maybe not is such large
quantities.
So there you are this trial to me was a good and successful.
